Preschool

"One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child." Maria Montessori

Our preschool day in the Montessori classrooms begins at 8:30am and goes until 11:30am.

In The Montessori Method, Maria Montessori stated that “the education of the senses must assume the greatest importance,” and the Montessori materials “cause the child to exercise the senses.” The school is equipped fully with the Montessori materials of practical life, sensorial, math, language, art, science, and geography, as well as many supplemental activities, including large-muscle activity in our indoor gym, field trips, and visits from School House Symphony.

At MCR, our goal is to provide children with opportunities for independence and self-exploration. We allow them to dress themselves, clean up after themselves, and look to other children for help. With over 100 different activities in the Classroom at any one time, there are many opportunities for children to work together in small groups or individually and we respect and encourage them to make their own choices.

We allow children to work at their own pace and we encourage their participation in responsibility for the community. As their first school experience, we want children to leave MCR with a love of learning, a respect for others, and respect for the environment and the classroom.
